Subject: Ghent, Belgium: Researchers (in biomarker discovery and molecular diagnostics) at Peakadilly

Peakadilly develops molecular diagnostics based on measuring presence of biomarkers in blood and other biological samples. One type is to detect disease earlier than presently achieved. A second is designed to distinguish patients that will or will not respond to particular drugs.

We believe that state-of-the-art methods in Machine Learning and Data Mining provide the right tools for discovering new and exciting patterns in our large proteomics databases. Inductive classification methods such as the Support Vector Machine have been shown to extract valuable knowledge from micro-array and mass-spectrometer datasets. Our goal is to keep track of the current advance within Machine Learning research and use this knowledge to further improve our biomarker discovery platform.

To expand its discovery programs, Peakadilly is now hiring HIGHLY TALENTED CREATIVE PASSIONATE RESEARCHERS with a proven track record in academia and/or industry to build multidisciplinary research teams. For all positions, we look for ENTHUSIASTIC TEAMPLAYERS GOAL ORIENTED SELF MOTIVATED fluent in English, with excellent communication skills.

Employed at its offices in the Technologiepark in Zwijnaarde/Ghent, Belgium, they will expand Peakadilly's biomarker programs, with a focus on cancer molecular diagnostics.

The candidates will have at least 2 of the following responsibilities:

  • Design and implementation of methods for controlling and assessing the quality of generated data
  • Research on state-of-the-art methods in Machine Learning that could be applied to further improve our biomarker discovery platform.
  • Mining of proteomics tandem MS data to further improve our protein identification sensitivity.
  • Developing a streamlined pipeline for the integration and automation of the different analysis steps
  • Communication of interpreted results with the research team
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Relevant PhD degree in either Computer Sciences, (Bio)-Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or Molecular Biology
  • A good understanding of statistics and machine learning methods
  • 2+ years of academic and/or industrial experience
  • Knowledge of a leading statistical package (SpotFire, MatLab, R, S-plus, SAS, ..)
  • Knowledge of machine learning software packages (WEKA, YALE, Spider, ...)
  • Good programming skills (Perl, C/C++, Python, Java...) and understanding of relational databases (SQL)
  • Proficiency in UNIX/Linux
  • Experience with mining micro-array data is an asset.
  • Experience with protein chemistry or mass spectrometry is an asset
