Geneva, Switzerland Applications are invited for a PhD position in the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (http://cui.unige.ch/AI-group), CSD, University of Geneva. The successful candidate will participate in a European FP7 research project where s/he will investigate advanced knowledge discovery issues such as algorithm and model selection, data mining ontology development, meta-learning, and integration of prior knowledge into machine learning. Research on these issues should give rise to software modules to be integrated into a virtual data mining laboratory. Further information on the project can be found on http://www.e-lico.eu. Gross starting salary will be around 4400 CHF/month (1 CHF = 0.65 EUR). Candidates should have a Master's degree in Computer Science. They should have excellent programming skills as well as communication skills in English (and ideally in French). A solid background in machine learning/data mining, substantiated by a Master's thesis or peer-reviewed publications in the field, is *mandatory*. Training or experience in ontology engineering will be a significant additional asset. A strong academic record, excellent analytical skills and a clear aptitude for autonomous, creative research will be priority selection criteria.
