Job description
We are currently seeking highly qualified researchers to help shape the work in Information Services at HP Labs, particularly in content analysis, text mining, machine learning, recommendation systems, and data mining. Example areas include (but are not limited to) classification, similarity analysis, clustering, feature selection, search, text mining, personalization, user modeling, collaborative filtering, novel information processing and extraction methods and related areas.

Qualifications
Skills/Knowledge Qualifications

Must:

  • M.S., Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g. computer science, information technology, statistics, etc.)
  • Excellent research and programming skills
  • Strong interest in working on problems and building prototypes that can make a big impact in products
  • Willingness to tailor research to solving real user problems
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research (for example, through publication record at top conferences or journals, and through impact of work)

The position requires both innovation and discernment for what may truly constitute substantial value. Success in our environment requires self-motivation, strategic planning skills, and self-management to conduct a research program leading to new valuable opportunities in a corporate environment. A successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field, excellent research and programming skills, a genuine interest in developing technologies to solve real user problems, the willingness to build research prototypes, an ability to work independently and in teams, excellent communications skills, a demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research and a strong desire to see innovation applied in real-world settings leading to tangible benefit.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience in novel information analysis, who have an interest in building and experimenting with research prototypes that have the potential to turn into industrial-scale systems and solutions, and who would like to see their work solve real-world problems.
