Subject: Postdoctoral Fellow in Brain Tumor Analysis Project at U. of Alberta, Edmonton

We invite applications for a (1 to 3 year) postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta and the Cross Cancer Institute, to work within the Brain Tumor Analysis Project developing tools to analyze brain tumors based on medical images of various modalities (including MRI, DTI, MRS and PET). Our long-term goal is a body of software tools that can help radiationarious oncologists determine how best to treat brain tumors.

This will involve

  • segmenting brain tumors within images (of various modalities)
  • predicting the location of 'radiographically occult' tumor cells
The ideal candidate will have

  • extensive experience with image analysis, machine learning, structured probabilistic models and signal processing;
  • excellent written and spoken communication skills;
  • a strong mathematical background
  • excellent programming (especially Matlab) and software engineering skills;
  • excitement about research in computing science and medical informatics, and especially their combination; and
  • the ability to manage graduate and undergraduate students working on research projects.
While prior knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging, oncology and biology would be useful, it is not required.

You will also be expected to interact (on this and perhaps other projects) with the researchers of the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Machine Learning (AICML) as well as other members of the University of Alberta Department of Computing Science and the Cross Cancer Institute.

For application details see www.cs.ualberta.ca/~btgp/pdf-posting.php
