University of Technology Sydney plans a data mining center of excellence

News.com.au, Jennifer Foreshew, November 23, 2004

THE University of Technology Sydney is trying to establish a $38 million data mining centre of excellence to involve universities, industry and government.

The centre would investigate and solve critical problems in deep data mining and business processes, research that could dramatically improve decision making in such areas as marketing, finance and health.

An application has been made to the Australian Research Council to secure $12.8 million over five years to support the programs. Seven university partners would contribute a total of $4.65 million and industry and government $1.75 million. The project has attracted $19.26 million of in-kind support, including personnel, space and facilities, software and hardware.

Here is the rest of the story.
