Sports analytics - useful and valid? Poll

Sports analytics are hot right now,
but how useful and valid are they?
Sports analytics are very useful - teams with better analytics increase their chances to win (36)  40%
Sports analytics are moderately useful - they are limited by the inherent randomness and unquantifiable human factors (35)  39%
Sports analytics are not useful - they extract random correlations and mostly good for entertainment (7)  8%
Don't know much about Sports analytics (11)  12%

Full disclosure: I have been a "stat nerd" and self-proclaimed fantasy sports geek for 8 years (2007 Football League Champion):

Sports analytics merely increase the likelihood of (yet do not guarantee) making a more educated, more informed decision. Undervalued obscure analyses (i.e. on base percentage in Lewis' "Moneyball") may or may not lead to rare insight or ultimately grant a competitive advantage.

Yet, in the end, one may make just as compelling an argument for ABSOLUTE 50/50 CHANCE as well!!
