Job Description
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), www.nrel.gov, located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

NREL's Scientific Computing Group has an immediate opening for a full-time (40 hours per week) Postdoctoral Researcher to enable scientific and technical management, data analysis, informatics and data mining. These activities will support on going research in the National Center for Photovoltaics and the BioEnergy Science Center (BESC).

The focus of this research lies at the intersection of applied fields - material science, chemistry and biology - and statistics, mathematics, and computing with the overall objective of developing and applying computational and statistical techniques that will help provide insight through an integration of results from experimental techniques and computational models. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal for up to three years.

The successful candidate will perform independent and team research in statistics and data mining in support of photovoltaic and bioenergy applications working with scientists to understand the scientific process, data analysis and informatics needs. Apply state-of-the-art statistical and data mining techniques to experimental data to aid application researchers in drawing maximal meaning from data. Evaluate and communicate results through written research reports for publication and presentations at seminars. Participate in group meetings and seminars. Assist with developing grant proposals for new research directions.

Two positions with one emphasizing data mining and the other emphasizing statistical analysis will be filled.

Qualifications
Must be a recent Ph.D. graduate with in the last three years.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, bioinformatics, material informatics, or related field. A strong background in data analysis and data mining. Willingness and ability to quickly learn essentials of new fields, collaborate productively with application scientists, and creatively, appropriately, and usefully apply sophisticated techniques in problem domains. Preference will be given for experience with photovoltaics, experience with plant genomics or microorganisms.
