Subject: Redmond, WA: Data Mining Analyst at Microsoft adCenter Lab

As part of the Microsoft adCenter Lab, you will be excited by the flexible and supportive environment where innovative ideas are incubated to lead and change the online advertising business. We have huge amount of data ranging from online and offline transaction log, customer and user profiles, inventory usage data, and other data sources, which contains valuable information for building cutting-edge advertising technologies and for making critical business strategies and decisions. As a Data Mining Analyst, you will be faced with the challenge of efficiently processing petabytes of data, discovering information, and putting it into actions to improve ad relevance as well as increase our revenue.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze a huge amount of data by using data mining and statistics techniques; generate actionable insights for improving advertising technology and systems.
  • Proactively identify areas for further investigation, support critical decisions on business strategies and new project establishments
  • Collaborate with other researchers in the lab on discovering problems in different areas where data mining/machine learning/statistics can help; act as an expert in the area of data mining/machine learning/statistics in the advertising technology field
  • Design and carry out experiments to evaluate different algorithms and their real impact on advertising business
  • Research and exploration in the areas of data mining, machine learning, and statistics.
Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in data mining/machine learning/statistics/databases
  • Strong theory/algorithm background and very good understanding on how to apply advanced knowledge to solve real problems
  • Solid experience in very large real world data analysis
  • Experience/knowledge with various data analysis tools, data mining tools, and statistical packages such as R, SAS
  • Ability to draw conclusions from data and recommend actions.
  • Ability to explain statistical concepts to non-statisticians.
  • Superior communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and in a team to research innovative solutions to challenging business/technical problems
  • Attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn new techniques
  • Proficiency with databases and programming languages such as C#, Perl or F#
  • Master degree or PhD (preferred) in the area of data mining/machine learning/statistics is required
