FeaturesFrom: Gregory Piatetsky-ShapiroDate: 21 Jun, 2004 Subject: Poll Results: Restriction on Federal Data Mining - do they make sense? The previous poll asked: Pentagon TAPAC Committee wants a written authorization before data mining that involves US persons (this covers even a Google search). Based on 110 votes, 15% voted - Yes, I support this restriction. Privacy is too important 48% voted - No, this restriction is too much. It will hinder security 32% voted - This issue is important, but I am not sure how to balance privacy and data mining Based on the low number of votes and lack of comments, this question does not seem to be important to many KDnuggets readers. This is a pity, because it is an important topic that may significantly affect both our privacy and security, one way or the other.
