Subject: Java Data Mining (JSR-73) Specification Enters Proposed Final Draft Stage

Java Specification Request (JSR) 73: Java Data Mining (JDM) has posted the proposed final draft of the JDM Specification for public review. Since the second public draft review, work on the reference implementation and technology compatibility kit resulted significant enhancements and clarifications to the specification. The proposed final draft also includes a Web Services interface for JDM with XML Schema and WSDL.

See http://www.jcp.org/jsr/detail/73.jsp to access the Proposed Final Draft documents. Review comments should be submitted to jsr-73-comments@jcp.org. The expert group is targeting summer 2004 for completion of the specification.

Java Data Mining provides a framework for performing common data mining operations, while facilitating the introduction of new or non-standard mining algorithms. By separating algorithm details from function level specification, JDM strives to make data mining accessible to mining experts and novices. JDM currently focuses on mining functions including classification, regression, clustering, association, and attribute importance (a.k.a. feature selection).

See http://www.jcp.org/introduction/overview/index.en.jsp for an introduction to the Java Community Process and becoming a member.
