Subject: PAKDD Workshop on Data Mining on the Web and Wireless Appls (New Deadline Feb 10)

PAKDD-02 Workshop Data Mining for Web and Wireless Applications

Taipei, Taiwan May 6, 2002 Submission Deadline: Feb 10, 2002

The web and wireless applications present an unprecedented opportunity for us to learn about user behaviors and the distribution of information. Web and mobile server logs provide rich sources of valuable knowledge patterns. Web site structures provide important content and linkage information about the web pages. Web databases, search engines and customer service centers accumulate large amounts of user information at extremely fast rate. It is a growing concern how to data-mine useful knowledge and apply the knowledge to web and mobile based applications.

This first PAKDD workshop on Web and Wireless Mining is devoted to techniques and applications for mining information on the web, especially from the web logs. Specifically, we wish to bring together researchers and practitioners in a forum on how to learn about the user and the web sites from the web log data, and to apply the learned knowledge to improving the performance of web-based information systems such as recommendation systems and search engines, user interfaces and web caching/prefetching systems. We are interested in exploring the integration of web and wireless log information with other information such as the web site content and the log data from mobile devices.

Topics include but are not limited to:

Web and wireless data modeling

Web and wireless data warehousing

Web data cleansing, transformation and integration with other data sources

Sequential analysis on Web and wireless applications

Clustering techniques on Web and wireless applications

Time series analysis on Web and wireless applications

Prediction techniques

Collaborative Filtering

Web and Wireless Log Mining

Query Log Mining

Recommendation Systems

Web Structure Mining

Data mining for better Web and wireless interfaces

Case Based Reasoning and Web Mining

The workshop will take one day on May 6, 2002 in Taipei, Taiwan. It will consist of keynote speeches, presentations and free discussions. The submitted papers will be reviewed by the committee members. As usual, the accepted workshop papers will be published in PAKDD workshop proceedings. It is also planned to recommend 3-4 high quality papers to an international journal for publishing as a special issue.

Submission deadline: Feb 10, 2002
