It is the second time that the working group "artificial intelligence" of the Technical University Chemnitz and the firm PRUDENTIAL SYSTEMS SOFTWARE GmbH seated in the Technology Center Chemnitz invite to come to the Data Mining Cup. For students from the German-speaking region, there will be a contest for the best solution to a data analysis problem. All infos to that are available in the Internet under http://www.data-mining-cup.de. The "cup" will take place from spring up to summer 2001. From now on, interested students can enroll for the contest. Thereupon, they get a free-of-charge software developed by PRUDENTIAL SYSTEMS with which they have to deal with a concrete task specification from April 17, 2001 onward. At that, commercial products of other offerers as well as own developments can be used too. The solutions have to be submitted by May 18, 2001. The winners of the contest will get attractive prizes such as the participation in the International Conference of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining in San Francisco/U.S.A. Objective of the Data Mining Cup 2001 is to cause students to become interested in the intelligent data analysis. On the closing event and on the Data Mining user event days on June 21/22, 2001 in the Dorint Parkhotel Chemnitz, the job perspectives in this field will be shown. During an extensive program on these two days that spans from lectures via a recruitment action up to firm presentations, students and firm representatives can become acquainted with each other.
