Subject: Redwood City, CA: Statistician/Data Mining Engineer - Bioinformatics at Maxygen

Will design and implement tools for biostatistics, computational modeling, internal database and data acquisition/processing; provide mathematical and statistical analysis towards understanding structure-function chemical/biological relationship; develop high performance novel algorithms for analyzing unique data; and implement algorithms.

Qualifications: MS in Mathematics or Statistics or a PhD in a scientific discipline with quality mathematical training, experience in statistical analysis, bioinformatics, or mathematical modeling of biochemical problems. Knowledge in nonparametric statistical methods, QSAR, neural net, PCA/PLS, genetic algorithms, resampling, clustering and classification, and a solid background in numerical analysis, optimization, advanced matrix theory and applications of differential equations in chemical kinetics desired. Familiarity with Visual C++, MATLAB and SAS or equivalent required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in bioinformatics methodologies, LIMS and data mining from genomic and structural information. Must be an innovative and creative problem solver and have the ability to interact productively with molecular biologists, chemists, geneticists, microbiologists and computer programmers.
