LARGE-SCALE DATA MINING:
Large Scale Data Mining attempts to develop automatic procedures that
search enormous data sets to obtain useful information that would
otherwise remain undiscovered. Given the size and dimensionality of
the datasets today, high performance algorithms and systems are an
integral component of a successful data mining solution.

The objective of this special session is to bring together researchers
at the forefront of data mining to present and discuss their
state-of-the-art work.

Authors are invited to submit original unpublished manuscripts for the
special session on Large Scale Data Mining. About six papers will be
accepted for presentation. A special issue of the Journal of Parallel
and Distributed Processing is also being planned. See the special
session URL for submission instructions.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
1. Efficient, scalable, sequential or parallel and distributed
algorithms for various data mining techniques, such as association
rules, classification, clustering, sequence mining, etc.
2. Studying the design of fast methods for the overall data mining
process, from the initial data selection to the extraction and
   management of discovered knowledge.
3. Scalable data mining on heterogeneous data sources (e.g. the Web,
   sequence data, images, video, etc).
4. Development of scalable data mining systems in e-commerce, retail,
   finance, the sciences, etc.

IMPORTANT DATES:
Papers Due: April 19th, 2000 (likely to change to May 1)
Acceptance Notification: June 30th, 2000
Camera Ready Papers Due: August 15th, 2000
